Boyce Upholt

Project: Between the Levees
Location: New Orleans, LA

Boyce’s project explored the ecology and human story of the Mississippi River. During his fellowship, he traveled six weeks by canoe documenting the “batture” — the wild land between levee and river — inspiring his award-winning book, The Great River: The Making and Unmaking of the Mississippi, winner of the 2024 Willie Morris Award for Southern Writing.
