Pheron Russell

Educational Specialist in Administration and Supervision

Byram, MS

Pheron hails from Jackson and Byram, Mississippi, alike, where she got to experience both rural and urban education as a student. After obtaining her undergraduate degree, Pheron became a 2014 Teach For America corps member, who served as a tenth and twelfth-grade English Teacher at Lakeside High School in Lake Village, Arkansas.

During her time as a corps member, Pheron was afforded the opportunity to serve as a 2015 Education Policy Fellow at the University of Arkansas, where she studied state test effectiveness, namely for Arkansas’s ACT Aspire. Since then, Pheron has taught in Mississippi’s first charter school as a fifth-grade Literacy teacher and founding cheerleading coach and she has served the students of Crystal Springs as a sixth-grade Language Arts teacher at Crystal Springs Middle School. 

From 2019-2021, she served as a Teach For America teacher coach for the Greater Delta Region, coaching first and second-year corps members based in Jackson, Mississippi. In 2020, Pheron earned her Master of Education from Belhaven University with a concentration in Curriculum and Instruction Pheron believes in ensuring that novice teachers are set up for success as much as possible; thus, she and her colleague, Hannah Bagwell, are working to support novice teachers through an organized mentorship program.
