Kelsey believes that no one should ever settle for ordinary, and that life is about curating your own dreams and purpose. She dreams of a day when all children across the Mississippi Delta will be able to follow each and every one of their dreams, no matter how crazy or outlandish!

Kelsey Smith grew up in Seattle Washington and has lived in Indianola for the past 5 years. She attended Seattle University and received a degree in Social Work before joining Teach for America. During her time with Teach For America, she taught first grade in Belzoni, MS, staying on board for the third year of teaching while completing her master's in reading education.

Kelsey is working to create a reading intervention curriculum that can help teachers diagnose and intervene with ease in their classrooms. This program will be widely available in the Delta, and best of all it will be free. This program fills a gap in interventions for K-2 skills in a way that is accessible to students through 12th grade.
