Educational Specialist in Administration & Supervision

Jackson, MS

Maya May was born in Monroe, LA, and relocated to Jackson, MS to attend Tougaloo College. She graduated in 2013 with a Biology degree and 2 years later attended Jackson State University to pursue a Master’s Degree in Sports Science. It was then, she discovered her passion for education. Maya is a 2017 Teach for America Alum and continues to teach 8th grade Science at her placement school.

Her Social Entrepreneurship Program, UpGrade Academy, is a tutoring and mentoring program where students not only strengthen their educational needs but gain skills through diversified experiences and workshops. The program targets 8th-10th graders from low-economical backgrounds and focuses on STEM enrichment and STEM-related career fields.

Fun Fact: Music is an integral part of Maya’s life. If you’re lucky enough to take a sneak peek into her classroom, you will be greeted by soothing sounds and a peaceful environment. Monday-Thursday. Friday is always a treat!

But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.
