Cohort 5

Alexandria Brumfield

Master of Science in Community Development

Jackson, MS

Originally from southeastern Ohio, Alexandrea attended the Ohio State University where she received her Bachelor’s in Sociology, Criminology, and Criminal Justice Studies. In 2018, Alexandrea joined Teach for America through which she moved to Jackson, Mississippi. Through this program, Alexandrea began teaching 6th-grade literacy in Jackson. Since then, she remains at her TFA placement school and serves as the lower middle school literacy interventionist.

During her time in Mississippi, Alexandrea has developed a deep passion to support students in developing their love of reading. In this work, Alexandrea aims to elevate the importance of independent reading for K-12 students by providing a system of resources, activities, and incentives to invest students in the importance of independent reading. These resources will support parents and teachers as they engage with students who are reading on a multitude of levels. Upon completion of the project, Alexandrea aims to continue her work investing students in reading.
