Taylar Price strives to see the world through loving eyes each and every day. A native of Beloit, Wisconsin, her educational journey was shaped early on by a pre-college program called the Beloit College Help Yourself Program, which she joined in 4th grade. This experience sparked a lifelong passion for education and set her on a path to higher learning. Taylar graduated in 2017 with a Bachelor of Science in Communication and Sociology from the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point, then went on to serve two AmeriCorps terms with College Possible, helping first-generation students access and succeed in college.
Taylar’s journey into the classroom began unexpectedly—through a former classmate’s outreach—but quickly became her calling. After a powerful first year teaching 3rd grade during the height of the pandemic, she joined Teach For America and relocated to Jackson, Mississippi, where she continues to serve as a passionate educator. Now the PreK Lead Teacher and Team Lead at Johnson Elementary School, Taylar’s personal story fuels her commitment to creating a safe, joyful, and affirming space for her students—just as her teachers once did for her.
Project Feature: JES TechStart Initiative
As a DSU TFA Graduate Fellow, Taylar is leading the JES TechStart Initiative, a social entrepreneurship project focused on increasing technology access, teacher support, and community engagement at Johnson Elementary through streamlined tech systems and an enhanced social media presence.
In a digital age where communication and visibility are key to school success, TechStart aims to:
Improve internal technology systems for staff efficiency.
Provide ongoing tech support and training for teachers.
Elevate school-wide storytelling through engaging, family-focused social media content.
Through this initiative, Taylar wants to ensure that both educators and families feel empowered, informed, and connected. By building tech-savvy practices and communication tools, she hopes to deepen school culture and foster stronger partnerships between educators, students, and the community.
Why She Teaches
“I want to be a safe space for students to come to, relax, and enjoy being in school. When years down the road, my former students still reach out about the positive role model I was for them, I know I’ve done my job.”
Taylar believes in the transformative power of education—not just as a means to academic success, but as a foundation for emotional stability, self-worth, and lifelong opportunity. Her classroom is a place where students feel seen, celebrated, and inspired to keep learning.
Fun Fact
Taylar was honored with a city-wide proclamation in Milwaukee, WI, naming August 16, 2019 “Taylar Price Day” for her leadership and service through College Possible. She received the Idealistic Leader of the Year Award for her impact on students and community engagement.
