Wendy Mann, originally from Carthage, Mississippi, now calls the Delta home. A devoted mother of three, Wendy brings an extraordinary blend of compassion, intellect, and purpose to every aspect of her life. With a background in surgical technology and over 15 years as a Neurological Surgical Assistant, Wendy later transitioned into education, where she has served as an English teacher at Gentry High School in Indianola for the past three years. Her deep passion for mental health and community empowerment also led her to serve as a Depression Management Coach, helping individuals navigate emotional and psychological challenges.
Wendy holds degrees in surgical technology, human services, and psychology, including a Master of Philosophy and ongoing PhD work in Social Psychology at Walden University. She is also completing a Specialist degree in Administration and Supervision at Delta State University. Her personal mission—to live with integrity, inspire others through positive actions, and continuously strive for personal growth and excellence—shapes both her career and her community leadership.
Project: DEM – Digital Empowerment of Mississippi
Wendy's Social Entrepreneurship Project, DEM (Digital Empowerment of Mississippi), addresses a growing yet often overlooked issue: digital literacy among older adults. Inspired by her own experience helping her mother navigate online tasks like telehealth appointments and certification exams, Wendy launched DEM to bridge the digital divide for seniors in the Delta.
In its pilot phase, DEM hosted hands-on workshops teaching participants the basics of using smartphones, tablets, and computers. Sessions included personalized support, take-home guides, and an inviting learning environment. The first event brought together community volunteers, local businesses, Gentry High School staff, and supporters from the TFA Graduate Fellows Program. With over a dozen seniors participating, DEM quickly proved the power of access, patience, and community care.
Wendy’s long-term vision is to expand DEM across Mississippi and beyond—offering sustainable programming that empowers seniors to thrive in a tech-driven world.
