James Forte’ was born in Little Rock, Arkansas, and earned his bachelor’s degree in Biology from Lane College in Jackson, TN. After graduation, James served two years as an education volunteer with the Peace Corps in Lesotho, South Africa. Following his Peace Corps commitment, he joined Teach For America, teaching 8th grade science at Humphrey County Junior High in Belzoni, MS.
James’s worked to build rapport and develop strong community relationships that improve youth, community, and economic development. As part of this vision, he contributed to the opening of Clarksdale Collegiate Charter School in Clarksdale, Mississippi, aiming to prepare students for college access and success.
From September 2016 to March 2017, James collaborated closely with the school’s founder to identify how his strengths could support the charter school’s launch. Between April and December 2017, he actively engaged the Clarksdale community by canvassing neighborhoods alongside the founder to share information about the new school. During fall 2017, he participated in forums discussing the benefits of public versus charter schools, helping build broader understanding and support. In October 2017, James secured partners committed to working alongside Clarksdale Collegiate to ensure student success.
His efforts reflect a commitment to fostering educational opportunities that empower youth and strengthen the community.
