Jackson, Mississippi

Mr. D. Hayes is currently serving his 3rd year at Johnson Elementary School as the 5th-grade Math teacher.  He is a native of Greensboro, North Carolina, and a proud alum of the illustrious North Carolina A&T State University, one of the best HBCUs in the country. Mr. Hayes believes that representation matters, and that is one of the main reasons he decided to pursue a career in education. He is an avid fan of music of all types and a huge sports fan, particularly the New York Yankees.

Darius’ Social Entrepreneurship Project, titled “Tigers Get Active" aims to give students an outlet to participate in physical education to help enhance cognitive function, social/emotional learning, and physical health.  His goal is to get students excited about learning and linking these physical education days as an incentive to show up for school as well. He plans to target 3-5th grade students primarily with the physical education classes and purchase sporting equipment for the k-5 classrooms.

Fun Fact: Darius enjoys writing songs in his free time.
