Calvin Steinhauer

Master of Science in Community Development

Clarksdale, MS

Calvin works to provide MS Delta students with new opportunities for leadership, service and learning to keep pace in an accelerating world.

Calvin is from Jenkintown, Pennsylvania—a small town outside of Philadelphia. Mr. Steinhauer attended Sewanee: The University of the South. There he joined the Order of the Gown, the University Choir and Delta Tau Delta International Fraternity. The summer after graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in History, Mr. Steinhauer joined Teach For America: Mississippi. Mr. Steinhauer taught two years of world history at W. A. Higgins Middle School in Clarksdale Municipal School District.

Through his Social Entrepreneurship Project, Calvin seeks to expand leadership and service opportunities for students in the Delta through the creation of new and exciting extra-curricular organizations. Calvin hopes to create a network of International Micro-Finance Clubs in high schools across the Delta. Clubs lead by students, supervised by teachers and supported by the community. He believes that International Micro-Finance Clubs in schools will inspire leaders and increase college admission rates.

Fun Fact: Calvin can recount the entire history of Arda, the setting of Tolkien’s Silmarillion and Lord of the Rings books.
