William Murphy

Doctor of Education in Professional Studies

Indianola, MS

William David Murphy is a Christian husband, father, son, friend, and colleague whose attitude and behaviors are driven by his faith in Jesus Christ. As a result, he grounds himself in these principles to drive his urgent push for equity in education, and all walks of life.

William is from Dunn, North Carolina and attended college at Wake Forest University (Winston-Salem, NC). Upon being selected as a 2005 Mississippi Delta Corps Member with Teach for America, he taught 4th-5th grade english language arts, social studies, and science at Julia L. Armstrong Elementary School (Greenville Public School District). He has served as the principal of Carver Elementary School (Indianola, MS) for 6 years, and is now serving his 3rd year in district leadership, as Director of Personnel, Student Affairs, and Athletics for the Sunflower County Consolidated School District.

His Social Entrepreneurship Project is specifically geared toward reducing the Teacher Shortage in rural areas like the Mississippi Delta, through comprehensive programs and specialized trainings to prepare local citizens to enter the education profession and provide a sense of stability and continuity for children.

Fun Fact: When he was a teacher, a possum once slept in his classroom for 2 straight days without him, his students, or anyone else ever knowing!

But He knows the way that I take; when He has tried me, I will come forth as pure gold.
